94 Points, Gary Walsh (The Wine Front) - "This is not your average vermouth, that’s for sure. It’s complex and nutty, floral with a buzz of aromatic honey, a bit of lift here, slightly smoky, blue fruits, ginger, orange peel and alpine herbs, cinnamon and cloves lend an anaesthetic edge. It’s tangy, a mead-like richness, tangerine, lots of spice and frisky white wine zing, it’s gently bitter, but sweet too, the lash and the comfort combined. It’s racy and juicy, with a finish of super length and gentle gloss. Superb vermouth. Rare and excellent."

Mirbi are organic farmers of blueberries and were introduced to us by good friends Erbalu in Moncrivello. Mirbi are a family run business who commenced organic farming in 2002 and obtained organic certification status in 2008. Aside the many mouthwatering blueberry food products, they produce delicious albeit idiosyncratic vermouth.

The MoncraVER from Mirbi is our first foray into the steeped history of vermouth production in Piemonte – the home of so many of our wines. Vermouth was born at the end of the eighteenth century in Turin, becoming the drink of choice, first of the Savoy family and then of the Italian aristocracy and bourgeoisie.

MoncraVER is a Vermouth based on Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG (100%), Morainic blueberry, local honey and precious herbs and spices, according to an exclusive and secret recipe. The label is a tribute in the pose of the figures to Botticelli's SPRING, one of the masterpieces of the Renaissance. We recognise it’s not inexpensive vermouth – but it’s genuinely artisan & a very serious expression.
