2019 Durigutti Cara Sucia Cereza
Light, refreshing red wine from Argentina?? Yes, it exists! It's not all big, blockbusting Malbec - this is a fun, alternative red that will drink very well over the Aussie Summer.
Born and raised in Mendoza, brothers Hector and Pablo Durigutti are making a different shade of Argentinian wine than we typically see in Australia.
Their wines hail from the warmer flats of the Mendoza region outside the cooler high altitude parts that produce the dense, opulent Malbecs of renown.
This wine is made from local variety Cereza, which when fermented and aged in a combination of concrete eggs and an old cherry pergola, makes for a juicy, lighter red wine which is ready to drink young.
Think lighter shade McLaren Vale Grenache or something similar and you're in the right territory. This is great drinking and an excellent point of difference from the Argentinian wine scene.
