2022 Platinetti 'the Guido'
The Guido is somewhat of 'super rosso' - it's what you might call a field blend of merlot, croatina, barbera, uva rara, nebbiolo, vespolina and erbaluce.
It's an eclectic blend from mainly 60-100 year old vines, that somehow, strangely - works an absolute treat. It's produced from a series of ancient trellis systems some of the bush vines may be up to 130 years of age.
92 Points, Gary Walsh (The Wine Front) – “A blend of Merlot, Croatina, Barbera, Uva Rara, Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Erbaluce. Vines are mainly 60-100 years old, some even older. It’s a complex wine, in part due to vine age, but largely because of its unusual blend of grape varieties. Quite some deep colour on it too. I’m thinking blood plum, dark cherry, tobacco, mint and liquorice, new leather, some perfume, but also kind of bloody too. It’s medium to full-bodied, quite savoury, but also plump in black and red fruits, dried cherry in particular. The acidity has something of a bright cranberry tang, and the tannin is sooty, grainy and quite grippy. The finish is dry and long. It’s interesting and different. Kind of rustic, but in a good way.”
