93 Points, Top Value – Gary Walsh (The Wine Front) – “Cherry, raspberry, aniseed, dried flowers, with a slight earthy character. It’s juicy but controlled, a little liquorice richness in with cherry, a fine grip to powdery tannin, a bit of a nutty/earthy/gamey savoury flourish here, some sizzled sage, with bright ‘minerally’ acidity on a finish of very good length. It’s approachable and lovely to drink.”

94 Points, James Suckling – “A complex nebbiolo with aromas of dried cherries, dried violets, licorice and smoky wood. Medium-bodied and crunchy on the palate, with ripe, dusty tannins and refreshing acidity. Very savory and focused finish. One of the best in its category.”

Not to be mistaken with their Langhe Nebbiolo the Monchiero Nebbiolo d’Alba is bottled later & the fruit is from Scaparoni & Roddi, it rests in large old neutral oak for 12 months. Production is also substantially less than the Langhe – to that end we are allocated approximately ¼ of the bottles that we receive of the Langhe Nebbiolo.

The 2023 Monchiero Nebbiolo d’Alba is a very strong release – showing the suppleness & elegance of 2023.  It probably shades their Langhe for aromatic complexity & minerality.
