2023 Giacomo Boveri 19 Marzo 1878 Barbera
Stunning new release Barbera from Boveri. In Colli Tortonesi with little to no nebbiolo grown - Barbera is king - receiving the best vineyards sites & attention.
92 Points, Gary Walsh (TWF) - "Very likely purple tasting wine. All the fresh picked berries – boysenberry, raspberry, blackberry – and quite a bit of spice, some dried herb and liquorice allsorts. It has a bright tang to acidity, fresh cranberry crunch, something a bit stony, with a dry grainy finish of good length and sappy saline tang. Distinctive wine. Lots of energy."
Bright crunchy barbera with dustings of dried herbs & graphite. Extraordinary QPR, especially when considered it is sourced from 100 year old Barbera vines in Tortona.
Perhaps not a statuesque Barbera like the ones to be found in Asti & Alba, raised only in stainless steel tanks the Boveri example is all about freshness and high drinkability. It's been an incredibly successful restaurant wine for us.
