2024 Erbalù 'Biancalus' Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG (PRE-ARRIVAL ONLY)

94 Points, Tip Top Tipple, Top Value – Gary Walsh (TWF) – “Hot on the heels of the splendid 2023. This producer seems to be hitting the quality button hard these days. Green apple, lemon curd, herb and cut fennel, a honey and white flower perfume, a wisp of smokiness – the usual suspects. It’s a little finer-boned in 2024, though it still packs in plenty of interest and flavour, a subtle banana split creaminess, then cuts through with fine citrus acidity and a gently nutty (almond) finish of very good length. Delicious and distinctive."

Erbalù (whose name is homage to the grape variety) only produce Erbaluce – a rare & beautiful indigenous white grape from the north of Piedmont. Erbalù call their bottling ‘Biancalus’ which is Piedmontese dialect for ‘white that shines’ due its unusual colour.

Timorasso is somewhat well established now, but Erbaluce appears to the be the next big thing in the radar from Piedmont, with writer Walter Speller & Antonio Galloni praising its virtues. To be labelled Erbaluce the wine must come from Caluso area – famous for its glacial soil which works so well with this grape variety.
