94 Points, Tip Top Tipple, Top Value – Gary Walsh (TWF) – “Beautiful and unusual perfume here. Chamomile, aniseed, aromatic herbs, green apple, ripe lemon, a whisper of flinty smokiness. It’s fresh, chalky in texture, perfumed and fine, has cool bell clear acidity running through it, a suggestion of green banana with a little whipped cream, finishes tight and long, with lemon zest to close. This is delightful and different. I love it.”

The 2022 vintage of the wine has been a staple at restaurants such as Supernormal, St Peter, Aria, Scopri, Clover & Attenzione. However, with the 2023 vintage, as always we offer our wines pre-arrival to our mailing list.

The 2023 is a very strong release, the winery are really finding their groove & understanding of this rare grape variety. It’s a herbal white wine with a stony, talc like mouthfeel punctuated by saline notes.  It has genuine phenolic grip making it very versatile with many type of protein – even red meats.

Erbalù (whose name is homage to the grape variety) only produce Erbaluce – a rare & beautiful indigenous white grape from the north of Piedmont. Erbalù call their bottling ‘Biancalus’ which is Piedmontese dialect for ‘white that shines’ due its unusual colour.

Timorasso is somewhat well established now, but Erbaluce appears to the be the next big thing in the radar from Piedmont, with writer Walter Speller & Antonio Galloni praising its virtues. To be labelled Erbaluce the wine must come from Caluso area – famous for its glacial soil which works so well with this grape variety.
