2023 Cà da l'Era "Dulz" Vino da Uve Stramature 375ml (PRE-ARRIVAL ONLY)
Pre-arrival price only, wine will be $95 when landed late March 2nd & final shipment.
Very limited & the first time we have managed to procure some of this from Mara at Cà da l'Era. Production is tiny & the wine is somewhat of a cult one in local restaurants. A number of Australian based Piedmontese sommeliers have been chasing us for it, so we are glad it will finally hit their restaurants!
95 Points, Mike Bennie - "It’s an intense sweet wine but holds its own with superb, chalky tannin profile and a skinsy grip through the finish. Dried apricot. Sweet spices. A touch of alpine herbs. Pickled ginger. Pickled lime. Bitter, vermouth-like characters. Brilliant. A good deal of intensity and then the dryness kicks in, and then again. It’s one of those wines for your best, tiny, crystal cut wine glasses and a big hunk of hard, salty cheese."
Our notes
A late picked Chardonnay & Moscato blend, off very old vines up to 800m. The grapes are allowed to dry slightly whilst still on the vines, they are then picked & racked for further drying to increase their concentration. This results in tiny production but great concentration. It's not a botrytis wine, it's not a vin santo style wine, it's not a passito either - it's very much its own thing.
There's notes of apricot & orange marmalade. It's rich & textural but punctuated also be great acidity making it not overtly sweet or cloying - in fact it has real savoury alpine herby elements to the long finish. It's an idiosyncratic and delicious wine we've not really tasted the likes of before. It's neither a 'sweet' dessert wine nor a full savoury wine either - but should do its best work with blue cheeses & non-chocolate based desserts.
