2023 Aline Beauné Montagny
Average age of the vines: 35 years
The estate owns 2.40 hectares of Montagny village with 6 locations. I chose to produce this cuvée from two parcels:
One located at the highest point of the Montagny appellation, in the place called "Rougeriaux," facing due North. The soil here is predominantly marl, making it heavy and challenging to work with, but very suitable for Chardonnay.
The other parcel is situated at the very bottom of the appellation, facing Northeast. The soil is a mixture of clay and limestone pebbles, more flexible and easier to cultivate. Grapes from this parcel achieve a more advanced ripeness than those from other parcels.
Aging:
The two parcels are harvested and aged separately; blending occurs before bottling. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no lees stirring. Aging with 60% in tanks and the remainder in barrels;
