2022 Piona Gavi
93 Points, Gary Walsh (The Wine Front) - "Pear, fresh apricot, almond, a minty sort of alpine Ricola lolly top note, which I really like. It has texture and crunch, a lovely cinch of quinine-like bitterness, a chamomile perfume, and a lively citrus tang and flavour through a finish of excellent length and grip. Lovely wine. Refreshing and adult. And so Italian."
Taut & fresh with citrus characters to the fore but also significant texture and grippy phenolics. There's green almond, a hint of pear punctuated by herby notes & fennel / aniseed notes. Terrific expression of Cortese & certainly no timebomb in the cellar - in fact it may well have upside.
