2022 Giacomo Marchiori Spanna
100% Nebbiolo, the flagship from Giacomo. Old vines up to 70 years of age.
94 Points, Gary Walsh (TWF) – “Cherry, some sweet, some sour, almond, dried flowers, aniseed, green herbs and amaro things. It’s juicy in cherry and strawberry flavour, also has something of a sappy tang to it, a cranberry crunch, a chalky feel to tannin, with a dusty digestivo finish of very good length. Distinctive wine and a fine alternative expression of Nebbiolo.”
This has some of the fruit concentration we liked in the 2020 with the finesse of the 2021. Cherry and other red fruits, there’s excellent length. The tannins are well sculpted, fine & pixelated. It shows some of the classical Alto Piemonte herbal components with the depth of the wines of the Langhe. It’s a terrific release. Which sits at 13.5% alcohol.
The 2021 was delicious, this may well be better.
