2022 Damiano Cavallini Fara 'Motto del Lupo'
Tiny quantities were allocated to us - so a 6 bottle limit sorry.
95 Points, Gary Walsh (The Wine Front) – “Cherry, liquorice, spice, walnuts, orange peel and amaro herbs. It’s ultra ‘mineral’, dusted with white pepper and spice, a juiciness to sweet and sour cherry, a crushed rock feel to tannin, aniseed and dried flower perfume carries on a precise finish of excellent length. There’s a bit of a rustic feel to this wine, but in a good way. It could only from be Alto Piedmont, such is its emphatic character.”
It's 70% nebbiolo & 30% vespolina from 85 year old vines. It's supple & elegant - weighing in at just 12.5 % ABV.
Dustings of graphite & white pepper laced with alpine herbs too. Red fruited flavours of maraschino cherry. Saline & balsamic through the mid palate. Taut and lean but not in the slightest sinewy. A stone laden finish of excellent length with some blood orange in the mix. Alto-Piemonte at it’s finest.
One of the finds of 2025 for us, and one of the finest wines we tasted all year.
