2022 Château de Mérande Vin de Savoie rouge El Sheitan

100% Gamay wine here from Mérande, but such a different expression to Beaujolais.  Crunchy red fruit with alpine notes on the nose. Mineral yes but stony as opposed to smoky minerality - joyous drinking.

93 Points, Gary Walsh - "The Savoie reds always with this wonderful glassy mineral character, and no change here. Red and black fruits, cherry in particular, mint and aromatic herbs, some cocoa powder richness. It’s medium-bodied, stony and tight, but also has generosity of fruit along with some more meaty flavours that often come with the grape variety. The finish has dry crunch and some energy. It’s a lovely expression of Gamay."
