2022 Aline Beauné Montagny 1er Cru "Chazelle"
Jasper Morris – “We tasted the 2022 vintage, in bottle. These are wines of exceptional precision and purity.”
91 Points, 4 Stars – Jasper Morris MW – “Aline is the only vigneron to produce a 1er Cru Chazelle. She has 0.90ha of 40-50 year old vines, including some of the muscatty chardonnay. 75% has been made in barrel, with 15% new wood overall. Full lemon colour with a steelier nose, some lemon grass and a little fresh greengage, maybe some crushed oyster shells. Excellent grip and a fine suave persistent fruit throughout. Quite classic Montagny.”
93 Points, Lisa Cardelli (The Wine Pilot) – “There is a gentle, almost whisper-in-the-ear array of nectarine and orange blossom, Nashi pear, grilled walnut and pecan, fresh cream, and freshly baked bread bun with melted butter. The wine has a lovely, soft texture, is juicy mid-palate, almost powdery, nearly lemon-curd-like, and has refined length.”
17/20 Jancis Robinson – “Tasted blind. Pale gold. Tropical pineapple, mango, banana – flattering and generous and sumptuous, yet with substance and depth, too.”
Beautiful premier cru white Burgundy at a fraction of the price of 1er Puligny or Meursault.
Chazelle is derived from the Old French "Case/Chese," meaning house. As this locality is situated near the departmental road that follows the route of the Roman road to Cluny, it's conceivable that there were small farms or Roman settlements in this area.
