2021 Quenard Claude et Fils 1 er Récoltant
100% biodynamic Jacquère orange wine from this legend of the Savoie. A tannic & powerful real orange wine with pleasing grip & notes of mandarin.
95 Points, Tip Top Tipple – Mike Bennie – “Mea cupla, I haven’t drunk much orange wine this year (though have tasted a heap), so when approaching this wine was glad to find myself hooking in, and then some. This is very well resolved, skin fermented jaquere. All the bits fit in well, it is very complex, tannins are seamlessly woven through. It is a delight, and in that vein of ‘digestible wines’ that I tend to enjoy. Strong scents of dried, mixed citrus peel, faint ones of mustard and curry powder, some alpine herb lift, chamomile in there too. The palate goes down the orange juice and apple juice pathway rippling with fine, powdery structure and chew. There’s a faint, saline undercurrent, more of the exotic spice, some tonic/quinine bitterness in the mix – everything just so and so well formed. It sits under medium weight so there’s high refreshment factor too. Really good here.”
