2021 Platinetti Colline Novaresi Vespolina

Sourced from old vines in Ronco al Maso cru in Ghemme.  Vespolina is a relative of Nebbiolo but more generous with a darker fuit tone.  The comfort wine from the Platinetti stable & a particularly strong release of this ultra consistent wine. Raised in stainless only, this is all about purity of fruit & fruit alone. 

93 Points, Lisa Cardelli (The Wine Pilot) - "Vespolina is primarily considered a good blending buddy in cool years, acting like Merlot for the rockstar Cabernet Sauvignon. As you might imagine, there are not many producers of varietal Vespolina around; this makes the wine even more interesting. But it’s also well made, so… Darker fruited and spicy, only stainless-steel vats here so that spiciness, intrinsic to the grape variety itself, shines through. Blueberries, boysenberries, bergamot, pink pepper, dried thyme. Tannins are noisier at the entrance, becoming quieter as they move along. Lovely length and balance with that spicy and amaro tang at the end."
