2021 Paitin Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca Veja
94+ Points, Gary Walsh - "A different expression of Nebbiolo here to your usual Barbaresco (where this producer is based), in that it’s quite minty and perfumed, with allspice and other assorted sweet spices, liquorice, strawberry, blood orange and cherry, almost into an alpine sort of thing. It’s medium-bodied, plenty of fine graphite tannin, cool acidity, excellent structure, with a long ripe cherry and almond finish. Love the grip and energy, and also its point of difference. Excellent."Drink 2025-2035+
92 Points, Galloni - "The 2021 Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca Veja, dark cherry, graphite. New leather, lavender, licorice & cloves are all lifted by bright, piercing acids & saline minerality. This virile Nebbiolo could use a year or two in bottle. There's a ton going on here."
Sourced from old vines in Ca Veja di Alba – raised in large old Slavonian oak for 18 months. The elevage & quality here is that of Barbaresco. In the Rivoli area in the South of Alba the Ca Veja area has been known for centuries for the quality of its Nebbiolo production. Paitin’s bottling sits in their hierarchy between their Langhe Nebbiolo & Barbaresco wines – however certainly closer to the latter for quality & capacity to age gracefully. It’s a knockout wine from one of the great Langhe vintages & a producer at the height of their powers.
