2021 Paitin Faset Barbaresco
The silkiest of Paitin's Barbaresco wines & the one most approachable in its youth. The 2021 is a stunner with more certainly more structure than their 19 & 20 releases.
96 Points, Tom Kline (The Wine Pilot) – “Fine, mineral, and lithe aromatically. Pure red cherry sits above cinnamon and nutmeg spice first off, leading to cranberry, subtle raspberry and red liquorice. The minerality shoots through the centre of the aromas creating excellent shape and lift. Air unlocks a deeper dried red floral note adding prettiness along with a whisper of white pepper savouriness adding to the complexity. The lifted and mineral aesthetic carries through to the palate, which is a foil to very assertive upfront structure in the form of stacked brick dust tannins and cranberry acidity. These furl around notes akin to the nose, drawing long length through a long. A Barbaresco defined by tensile purity, mineral finesse and fine detail, with incredible structure. This will age beautifully.”
95 Points, Wine Spectator – “Exuding finesse, with expressive aromas and flavors of cherry, strawberry, currant, rose and mint, this red is complex, structured and long. Its dense foundation of tannins and lively acidity define the long, mineral-infused aftertaste.”
94+ Points, Gary Walsh (The Wine Front) – “This is a very tight and understated wine. Red fruits, mint, orange peel, almond. It’s medium-bodied and defined by its bright crunchy acidity, strawberry with a dusting of white pepper, firmly etched, with plenty of dusty tannin, blood orange tang, distinctly ‘mineral’ in feel, with a long finish. It’s on the cusp of ripeness for me, though I reckon it will build with time in bottle.”
17.5 /20 Jancis Robinson- "Barbaresco. Just mid ruby. Still closed on the nose, and compact, fragrant raspberry fruit on the palate. Juicy and almost a little racy with layers of sandy tannins. Super-elegant and tactile. (Walter Speller)"
94 Points, Antonio Galloni - "The 2021 Barbaresco Faset is a very pretty, perfumed wine. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, blood orange, mint and white pepper are all nicely lifted in this charming, mid-weight wine. Silky tannins wrap it all together in style. This is an exceptionally refined, young Barbaresco. (AG)"
