2021 Muraje Sumié Carema
Very limited with just 90 bottles coming to Australia.
96 Points, Tip Top Tipple - Gary Walsh - "So fine, cool and light, you can almost taste dappled sunshine. Red fruit, rosehip and alpine perfume, a dusting of Sarawak pepper and aniseed, a discreet volcanic rock smokiness. Medium-bodied at most, it’s finer and lacier than most Pinot Noir wines, has a spicy almost volcanic feel to gentle but present tannin, and finishes very long with pure red fruit, a twist of orange peel, and a subtle savoury earthy character. Drop dead gorgeous. A great and unique expression of Nebbiolo."
From the magnificent 2021 vintage & a new highwater mark for Muraje for this ultra consistent wine. Fine boned of course true to the house style, the clone & Carema terroir but deceptively structural with plenty of tightly packed fine tannins weaved through the bright red fruit. Classic Carema aromatics of white pepper & graphite.
100% Picotener Clone Nebbiolo. The vineyards are cultivated between 300 and 600 mt above sea level, on centuries old terraces supported by dry stone walls on rocky amphitheater of Carema town in province of Turin (Piedmont, north-west of Italy). Cru : Ciapey, Laurey, Falet, Costet, Costa, Siei, Masunì. The grapes are 100% Nebbiolo from vines which are on everage 50 years old and are trained using the ancient ‘pergola caremese’ (‘topie’ in local dialect) method.
