From a vineyard with the oldest vines 91 years of age & the youngest 76 years of age. Planted to a Maggiorina system – typical rather than Guyot in this era.  It’s a wine steeped in ancient tradition from the volcanic soils Brusnengo (Bramaterra).

A Nebbiolo based wine but also containing Croatina, Vespolina & Uva Rara.  It sits out just 12.77% Alcohol.

It has whiffs of alpine herb & lavender.  The palate is drenched with ferrous bloody notes & balsamic.  The tannins are fine and feathery. It’s fiercely mineral with long driving finish of superb length.  It speaks of just one place, Alto Piemonte and it does so emphatically.  It’s superb release & the end of an era in a way.

2021 will be the last year for the Vecchi Vigneti in its current name.  Going forward it will be the Bramaterra ‘Vecchi Vigneti’.

Despite 2021 being a superb Piedmontese vintage, it was not without its challenges for Paolo at La Palazzina.  Whilst his fruit quality was superb, he lost of most of his harvest to catastrophic hailstorms.

As a consequence of the lower yields, Paolo made the Vecchi Vigneti like a Bramaterra – with 48 months in large old wood. The resultant wine was compelling – it will be his approach going forward. And thus, there will be three different Bramaterra at La Palazzina – each unique & different.
