2020 Platinetti Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo
A strong release from this super consistent wine from the excellent 2020 growing season.
94 Points, Tip Top Tipple, Top Value - Kasia Sobiesiak (TWF) - "Bright red fruit, cranberries and strawberries. Sweetness in the form of cherry pith or almond essence and an underlying freshness in the shape of coniferous forest. Aromas finish on a leathery, waxy note. Bergamot orange trace in flavours with a cool wet stone touch in texture and tart cranberry acidity. Chalky soft tannins are set in what is a light bright mouthfeel making the whole drinking experience dangerously effortless and highly pleasurable, especially at this price point."
The 100% Nebbiolo is sourced from the old Ronco al Maso cru in Ghemme. This is from a terraced vineyard with fluvial -glacial soil with sandy and pebbly texture.
The minimum vine age here is 45 years. This is fruit declassified from the Ghemme - not with a view to quality consideration but rather fruit with a structure more aligned with earlier consumption. That said, anyone who laid down the equally lovely 2016 vintage will know this wine ages very well.
The wine is raised in a mix of large old neutral oak & stainless steel. There's more of the distinct mineral feel of its stablemate the Ghemme.
