2020 Muraje Sumié Carema

A truly superb release from Deborah & Federico at Muraje.  This is a fine boned, red fruited & super pure expression of nebbiolo.  A hauntingly beautiful release.

100% Picotener Clone Nebbiolo. The vineyards are cultivated between 300 and 600 mt above sea level, on centuries old terraces supported by dry stone walls on rocky amphitheater of Carema town in province of Turin (Piedmont, north-west of Italy). Cru : Ciapey, Laurey, Falet, Costet, Costa, Siei, Masunì. The grapes are 100% Nebbiolo from vines which are on everage 50 years old and are trained using the ancient ‘pergola caremese’ (‘topie’ in local dialect) method.

94 Points, Gary Walsh TWF - "Strawberry, alpine herbs, almond, pepper, cranberry crunch. It’s medium bodied, dusty and peppery, but kind of sweet and succulent too, all the blood orange and tangerine tang, cherry, tobacco savouries, bright pomegranate zip, with a chamomile perfume on a finish of excellent length. Frisky. Lots of energy. And very good it is. Distinctive."
