2019 Quenard Claude et Fils Chignin-Bergeron

Certified organic & biodynamic from this revered Savoie maker. From vines up to 100+ years of age planted on limestone clay. 100% Roussanne & the most powerful wine from this domaine, great mid-palate & terrific phenolic grip. Again here intentional mildly oxidative nose belies the fresh energetic mouthfeel of the wine. Impossibly low yields in 2019 seem to have only intensified this release. Not quite White Burg, not quite Jura & not quite a Rhone like expression of Roussanne yet all of the above. Marvellous stuff. 

94 Points, Mike Bennie – “From a sought-after Savoie producer working organic and biodynamic and the like. It’s roussanne here, but I immediately went to oxidative whites from elsewhere when tasting, not that it is a dominant character, but it is there, and delightfully so. Sea spray, lime, candied ginger green apple – these the mainstays. Succulent texture, very minerally feel, a chalkiness through the finish. Lively perfume with jasmine floral highlights in the mix of the other fruit and savoury things, a great pleasure to sniff on. Feels almost medium weight in its vibe, and finishes long and bright. Excellent drinking.”
