2019 Domaine Joly Chardonnay "En Beloy" l'Etoile

95 Points, Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front) -"Ah, Domaine Joly is back! [rubs hands in glee]. This is a Chardonnay aged for almost 36 months in old oak barrels. The perfume is unmistakably that of the flor yeast influence, but it’s not dominating the wine entirely. Fino and Chardonnay lovers will be content to find in abundance roasted peanuts, chamomile tea, apples, peaches, white flowers, brine, green walnuts, and freshly baked sourdough. It has an impactful finish that blurs out just at the very tail end. Nevertheless, with this load of spot-hitting, strong-standing aromas, there’s a mineral detail, lightness and acidic brightness in this wine, making it extremely mouthwatering and, as a result, very moreish."

100% Chardonnay from the legendary terroir l'Etoile.  From a very low yielding but superb Jura vintage. An epic release surpassing the very lovely 2018. 

Almost three years under flor, so oxidative yes, but so bright & mineral.  Notes of fino on the nose.  The palate has grilled nuts, dried fig & apricot.  Piercingly mineral with oyster shell, sea spray & an ultra long finish of wet stone.
