95 Points, Tip Top Tipple - Gary Walsh (TWF) – “Such perfume, liquorice root, mint and dried roses, red cherry, tangerine, a salty cracker note, some yeast and sourdough, but gee, it smells like fine Nebbiolo all up. It’s saline, juicy in red cherry and blood orange, has presence and weight, though it’s still kind of light and airy, the bubbles are well resolved, and there’s a subtle grip to it, and the length is excellent, with a fine chalky texture and salted almond pastry richness. It’s dry, yet there’s full flavour to fruit here, and my word, such character in the bottle. It’s so vinous, yet has bubbles. What a truly great sparkling wine.”

Stefano’s flagship rose sparkling Nebbiolo from the superb 2019 vintage. Over three years on lees & then further bottle ageing before release.  With the volcanic soils imparting talc & chalky textural mineral elements – this puts me in of the Côte des Bar area of Champagne. Given it’s every bit the equal of his still wines, it remains a mystery to me why these superb sparkling wines are never reviewed by Galloni & Suckling.

And super versatile too – suitable as an aperitif style or as a food wine.
