2018 Quenard Claude et Fils 'Matéria' Blanc

Certified organic & biodynamic from this revered Savoie maker. From vines up to 60 years of age on limestone. A charming & idiosyncratic wine - always released with bottle age the blend is Chardonnay, Jacquère & Roussette.  Always released with bottle age - it's medium bodied & super stony.  It's energetic & yet still very textural. There's more than a bit of White Burgundy feel about this - but without the price tag.

93 Points, Mike Bennie – “This is a blend of chardonnay, jacquere and roussette from Savoie, off 60 year old vines. Cool producer, this. Organic/biodynamic certified. Savoie with x-factor. Textural, medium weight expression, the chardonnay seems to lead and lends plushness and slurpy attributes while the other varieties send through a crystalline, saline, minerally edge. Stone fruits, frangipani, shortbread and ginger on show with faint alpine herb characters across the bouquet and palate. Quite mouth-filling, not rich, but present in the palate with each sip. It’s charming and feels quietly complex. Quite generous for Savoie white wine.”
