2018 Platinetti Ghemme Riserva Ronco Maso

95 Points, Tom Kline (The Wine Pilot) - "The inaugural Riserva release from this producer. Fruit from the Ronco Maso cru, aged in large old Slavonian oak. This is complex and appealingly autumnal. Decaying leaves, dried rose, balsamic, lavender, roast tomato umami, liquorice root, ferrous, pine mushroom. Lots going on! The palate is medium bodied and showing lovely restraint, with rose, balsamic, and liquorice root lifted by a cooling mineral feel. Chalky tannins sit in perfect balance alongside brilliant acidity. Endless length. An excellent wine."

A first ever Riserva for this great estate – a step not taken lightly either.  It certainly needs a little air time to unfurl.  But when it does there’s mint & alpine herbs on the nose.  Flavours of sage & thyme are punctuated by a distinct bloody ferrous feel, with balsamic minerality. It’s concentrated but doesn’t come over dense or heavy.  A dialled up version of the standard bottling of Ronco Maso for sure, a few gears too - with a little more everything really that we love from this vineyard & maker. Like all Platinetti Ghemme bottlings a bright & long future is beckoning.
