2016 Poderi Colla Barbaresco Roncaglie

A new label for this wine, bringing it into line with the Bussia. Looks more betterer. 2016 was a splendid vintage in Barolo and Barbareco, though I suspect that the latter region did even better. Importer: Trembath & Taylor

So pure and fresh, but with depth of fruit, and of particular note, are the sheets of tightly knit tannin that drive the wine from front to back with such precision. Red fruit, roses, a little mint, hazelnut/almond and new leather. Very long, with an inner-perfume trailing, and iron/mineral thing, along with those magnificent tannins. It’s a wine for later, rather than now, though, of course, I’d more than happily work through a bottle without appropriate age. And tannin is good for you.
