2019 Platinetti Guido Vespolina (PRE-ARRIVAL ONLY)
Pre-arrival price only, wine lands early May and will be $47.
93 Points, Mike Bennie – “Boysenberry and cranberry, fennel and mint, candied almonds in the mix. Succulent and fine in the palate, more boysenberry and cranberry with the latter fruits tang and chalky tannins in tow. Refreshing red, in its way, but there’s depth too, inkiness despite the lift and a sense of general purity. Sits under medium weight, feels just so very lovely in its carriage of flavour and unusual but intriguing fruit character. Delicious stuff.”
Mike Bennie reckons this release is a smidge better than the lovely 2018 and we agree!
Platinetti's parcel of Vigna Ronco al Maso, in addition to its plantings of Nebbiolo, has a small parcel of old Vespolina vines. It's from this patch Andrea produces what we believe to be the Vespolina to be found with a minimum vine age of 35 years.
The wine is raised in stainless steel - preserving its inherent liveliness. It's 13% alcohol.
