2018 La Palazzina Coste della Sesia Rosso DOC (PRE-ARRIVAL ONLY)

95 Points, Gary Walsh – Tip Top Tipple, Top Value – If you love delicacy and finesse married to flavour, then here’s a terrific wine. Cherry essence and ripe raspberry, brown spices, a stony thing happening, dried flowers and perfume of sweet herbs. It’s light to medium-bodied, but packs in the flavour, again that crushed rock ‘mineral’ feel to supple tannin, crisp cool acidity, a slight earthiness, and a long pure finish. It tastes like a wine born of rocks and old vines. It’s a beautiful thing.” Drink 2020-2030+
The 2018 Bramaterra Coste della Sesia Rosso is sourced from the commune of Brusnengo from a gnarly old vineyard at 320m with vines up to 70-85 year old sitting on volcanic soil.
The 2018 growing was exceptional in Alto Piemonte, with some growers referring to it as the best in living memory.
The cepage for the 2018 is 70% Nebbiolo 20% Vespolina, 5% Croatina & %5 Uva rara. The wine was raised in 5-10 hectolitre Slavonian casks for 18 months.
The alcohol is a very moderate 12%. It's a wine of immediate charm but with great cellaring potential.
