As Piedmont is so commonly characterised as ‘red wine country’ we’ve always been very judicious about which whites we import from the area – because frankly irrespective of how good they are, it’s tough overcoming the stereotype.
Historically we haven’t imported Bel Colle’s chardonnay. But the Bel Colle team have made some ‘pilgrimages’ to Burgundy to look at the Chardonnay based wines of the Côte-d'Or – and the resultant improvement in this wine has it on par for quality with some of their top Nebbiolo based wines.
