2018 Muraje Sumié Carema
Very small quantities sorry so a strict limit of 6 botttles.
95 Points – Mike Bennie, “Ultra fragrant, rose hip tea scents, sour cherries, fragrant, minty herbs, kirsch notes too. Light-weight and delicate to taste though you don’t miss concentration of flavour or the spice, herb, graphite-like mineral notes. Ultra spicy finish. Yum. Striking wine for its individuality but built around texture, incredible al dente tannins, extension of flavour on amaro-laced acidity. Wow. Blast off.”
A simply superb release of this wine for Muraje. The growing season in Carema was outstanding in 2018.
We last tried this wine in January 2020 at the cellar and have been palpable with excitement ever since to land the wine. This is a truly outstanding Alpine Nebbiolo & a watershed moment for the Estate. In our view this 2018 is a more impressive release than the 2016 (which received 17.5 from Jancis & 95 Points from Mike Bennie).
The vineyards are cultivated between 300 and 600 mt above sea level, on centuries old terraces supported by dry stone walls on rocky amphitheater of Carema town in province of Turin (Piedmont, north-west of Italy). Cru : Ciapey, Laurey, Falet, Costet, Costa, Siei, Masunì. The grapes are 100% Nebbiolo from vines which are on everage 50 years old and are trained using the ancient ‘pergola caremese’ (‘topie’ in local dialect) method.
